Telangana (Telugu: తెలంగాణ) is proposed state in India, with Hyderabad as its common capital for 10 years with Andhra Pradesh.[2]
On July 30, 2013 Indian government gave its node to the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh to become the 29th state of Republic of India.
The government's timeline for the creation of the new state involves an elaborate process, which has been allotted a 122 days, or at least four months.[3] [4]
The New state of Telangana would comprise of 10 districts: Hyderabad, Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda,Nizamabad, Rangareddy, and Warangal. The Musi River, Krishna and Godavari rivers flow through the region from west to east. Hyderabad and Warangal are two largest cities in Telangana region. Warangal city is accorded world heritage city by UNESCO in March 2013.[5][6]
Since Telangana was merged with Andhra state to form Andhra Pradesh state in 1956, there were several agitations in Telangana to invalidate the merger and to form Telangana state.
On December 9, 2009, the Government of India announced the process of formation of the Telangana state. Due to violent protests raised inCoastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions immediately after the announcement, and due to the agitation in those regions for 14 days, the decision to form the new state was put on hold on December 23, 2009. On July 30, 2013, Congress Working Committee(CWC) passed a resolution that Telangana will be a new state of Republic of India. The formation of state would take 4-5 months from the resolution date.
With a population of over 3.5 crore, the new state comprising mostly the areas of the princel Nizam state will have 17 Lok Sabha seats and 119 Assembly seats.
